The legendary mountaineer Fred Beckey called it ‘The Queen of the Cascade River’. Deservedly so – Eldorado Peak is an absolute gem of a climb, in a ruggedly spectacular alpine setting.
Its greatest allure has to be the iconic knife-edge summit ridge, which adds a dash of spice that would make any alpinist’s heart race.
The sprawling Inspiration Glacier crawls all the way up to Eldo’s summit from the eastern aspect, giving it a veiled appearance that distinguishes it from all the other peaks in the North Cascades.
The famous knife-edge summit ridge can be seen at the very top of the peak in this photo, which was taken from the nearby Sahale Peak.
