For lovers of alpine lakes in Washington, a trip to Jade Lake is almost like a rite of passage. Deep in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, the trail involves a strenuous hike with lots of elevation gain and some boulder hopping.
But the color of the water is simply otherworldly. It’s blue like you’ve never seen before, bluer than the sky. It really has to be seen to be believed.
The sprawling Inspiration Glacier crawls all the way up to Eldo’s summit from the eastern aspect, giving it a veiled appearance that distinguishes it from all the other peaks in the North Cascades.
The famous knife-edge summit ridge can be seen at the very top of the peak in this photo, which was taken from the nearby Sahale Peak.
