North Twin

September 2021

The general consensus in the climbing community here, is that the North Twin is the finest scrambling objective in the Pacific Northwest.

The sheer quality of the rock is the primary reason – the entire climbing route is on really solid, clean, grippy rock that’s very confidence-inspiring. The route itself is a solid Class 3 with just enough exposure to make things interesting. And with Mount Baker looming right across the Nooksack valley, the views are incredible as well.

The sprawling Inspiration Glacier crawls all the way up to Eldo’s summit from the eastern aspect, giving it a veiled appearance that distinguishes it from all the other peaks in the North Cascades.

The famous knife-edge summit ridge can be seen at the very top of the peak in this photo, which was taken from the nearby Sahale Peak.
